盲眼的尼安德塔石器匠

這首詩作於 1609 年，詩人是大英帝國的約翰．當恩（John Donne）。本詩是佩脫拉克式十四行詩，原本名字叫作神聖十四行詩十號（Holy Sonnet X），不過太沒特色，一般提到時會以開頭第一句作為詩名「死神莫驕狂（Death be not proud）」。這是一個很狂的詩。既然是超譯，押韻就顧不到惹。

死神莫驕狂（Death be not proud）

死神莫驕狂，雖然有人覺得你全能而可畏，

但是事情真的不是你想的那樣，

那些你以為被你擊倒的人，其實沒有死去，

可憐的死神，你也無法殺掉我。

Death be not proud, though some have called thee 

Mighty and dreadful, for, thou art not so, 

For, those, whom thou think'st, thou dost overthrow,

Die not, poore death, nor yet canst thou kill me.

你展現休息與睡眠的表象，

讓空氣中充滿更多快活的氣息，

我們當中最好的人將隨你而去，

舒展筋骨，安歇他們的靈魂。

From rest and sleepe, which but thy pictures bee,

Much pleasure, then from thee, much more must flow, 

And soonest our best men with thee doe goe, 

Rest of their bones, and souls deliverie.

命運，機會，國王，絕望男子，你是他們的奴隸，

睡完短暫的一覺以後，我們會永遠醒來，

死亡卻不再存在；死神，那時你將死去。

One short sleepe past, wee wake eternally, 

And death shall be no more; Death, thou shalt die.
